For a competitive fishing industry

Being born in a country that has a coastline rich in species does not guarantee to become a world example in industrial fishing. In Peru, we have everything to continue growing, the ecosystem, the vessels, the desire and, above all, the people; the only thing we lack is a little more support. To accomplish the growth that we expect so much and to become more competitive, some reforms must be promoted to boost us as the great industry that we are.

Over the years, Peruvians have made a great effort to get the best out of the sea for our consumption and to export to other countries around the world, and thus to be able to generate profits. If we want to continue in this good path and improve, we must begin to see how our expenses can allow us to be competitive. For instance, fuel is an important expense that is incurred when extracting the resource. Compared to other countries, we have a high cost, which does not allow us to be more profitable in each fishing season.

Another important point is the promotion of the industry such as aquaculture and the promotion of the tuna industry. The extraction of tuna generates, in foreign currency, over one billion dollars. If we manage to make it grow, it could triple the jobs that are already important today. A promotion of aquaculture would bring with it many incentives for its development, key rules for proper training, would promote employment and food security in the country.

Finally, it is important to point out that these reforms would not be of much help without the willingness of the sector. In Hayduk Corporation, as part of the National Fisheries Society, we support each one of them. ¡Together we can!
