What
is Biomass?
Biomass
is knowed as the individual or group of individuals weight of the same species.
The Peruvian Sea Institute (IMARPE) is in charge of doing the research cruises
with the purpose of assessing the biomass condition and from then to make the
extractable resources reports by the fishing companies. This year, prior to the
beginning of the First Fishing Season, the first report came out with positive
news announcement about the biomass, because in the north area exist 10.11
million of MT of anchovy. This represents an increase of almost 25% if it is
compared with previous years MT that had a maximum of 8.18 MT.
This
biomass healthyness is a result of several factors, but one of them, and maybe
the most important one, is the correct and responsible management of our
sector. As an example of that is the quotas system, a regulation that prohibits
an olympic race on fishing. Thanks to this, we have avoided the species
predation. During this season, the Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) has
determined that the assigned quota will be of 2.41 million of MT.
In Hayduk Corporation we are aware that to value and
respect the sea and it’s resources is the first step to protect them and that
way, to reach a healthier biomass over the years.
